Copenhagen Steelband is the first, hottest and the oldest steelband in Denmark!

Originally the band was founded at the Gladsaxe Music School, where the first serious attempts was made to bring steelband music to Denmark. Today however, there is no longer any relations to the music school in Gladsaxe, and from the current crew of 12 musicians, there is only one left from the early days in the music school.

We play every year across Denmark and in the surrounding Countries.

Since the beginning - in 1981 - more than 33 musicians has played with Copenhagen Steelband for a longer or shorter period, and through all these years the band has grown to be one of the biggest and most serious steelband in Denmark.

The bandmembers are alle experienced musicians, who all have their solid background in steelband music as well as other rythmic and even classical music. Read more about the current members of the band.

The repertoire has its roots in the warm and inspiring rythms from the Caribian Islands and Latin America. The music is a wide range of instrumental tunes - from the "good old" brazilian samba classics to the newest soca and calypso hits from Trinidad and Tobago. And of course our repertoire also contains our own compositions and arrangements.

Copenhagen Steelband was the first band in Denmark to record a CD with real steelband music. In addition to this, the band has contributed with steelband sound in many occasions - among others on Rudy Smith's album "Time to move on".
